SVC swimming making final stride to conference championships

With the end of January, the Saint Vincent College men’s and women’s swimming teams look toward the Presidents’ Athletic Conference championships as the teams’ regular seasons come to a close. Now with only one more meet remaining before PACs, the SVC men’s team has an overall record of 5-3-0. Not only does the team’s overall record impress, but the Bearcats also boast a 3-1-0 conference record. Senior captain Zachary Ligus said, “The men’s team’s success is attributable to the outstanding work done by this year’s freshman class.” Meanwhile, the SVC women’s swimming team currently holds an overall record of 3-6-0 and a conference record of 2-3-0. Bearcat swimming prepares for new season

The Bearcat Swim team is making waves this season with high rankings, stellar times and productive practices In season began with the Westminster Relays hosted by Westminster College. Xander Emili, Adam Gordish and Zach Ligus finished in second place after Gannon University in the 3×100 butterfly relay. The team of Chad Linebaugh, Nicholas Patton, Marshall Grubb and Allen Sant also came in third place in the 500 crescendo relay with a time of 4:43.83. Emili, Ligus, Andy Moog and Alex Bolen came in third place in the 400 medley relay. The men also came in third in the 3×500 free relay. Emili, Moog, Sean Doyle and Kam Faychak finished third in the 400 IM relay. SVC Swimming preps, dives into new season

Just weeks before the start of the 2014 season, the Saint Vincent College men and women’s swimming teams began preparation for another season. In the 2013- 2014 season, the men’s team finished with a 5-5 record and the women’s team finished with a record of 6-5. The men finished fourth of nine at their championship meet while the women finished third of 11. Head coach Josh Gurekovich returns once again as the Bearcats swimming coach. In 2013, Gurekovich was named women’s coach of the year for the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. After three days of tough competition, the Saint Vincent College women’s swimming team earned a third place finish at the James Longnecker Invitational, while the men finished fourth. The invitational served as the conference championships for the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) as well as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC). On day one, the women’s relay team of Alexis Ferraco, Marissa Frollo, Sarah Robbins and Paige Pecora took a first place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:36.63. Frollo’s split, timed at 23.44, set a school record. The freshman then won the 50 free in 24:03, becoming the first freshman to win the event at the PAC Championships since 2010. Robbins finished fourth with a time of 24.77. Pecora finished in fifth place in 24.87. Ferraco took a seventh place finish with a time of 25.34.
